7th Annual Northern Michigan Golf Trip (2005) – Post Trip Summary

The 2005 trip to Boyne Mountain/Highlands provided another fun golf weekend.  We had near perfect golf weather, with primarily sunny skies and temperatures in the mid 80’s.  We did have a bit of rain on Saturday afternoon, but it seemed to help cool us off.  The courses and lodging this year were great.

Total Score Predictions and Results:

(-1) Stu - (Predicted 380, Shot 379) – Obviously kept tabs of his cumulative score after every hole.

(5) Jay - (Predicted 405, Shot 410) – Knows his (crappy) game.

(6) Tony - (Predicted 454, Shot 448) – Beginner’s luck!

(-8) Dave - (Predicted 381, Shot 373) – Cheated again some how!

(-8) Paul N - (Predicted 420, Shot 412) – There must have been some performance enhancing drugs in that Friday night cheese pizza.

(8) Monroe - (Predicted 450, Shot 458) – Thinking about joining the PGA next year.

(-9) Jeff - (Predicted 405, Shot 396) – Must be all that discipline acquired in the Marines.

(-10) Bob F - (Predicted 380, Shot 370) – 10 strokes less and without the patented Freeman Footwedge?!?!

(26) Randy - (Predicted 408, Shot 434) – Don’t know what to say here.  A couple of lessons might be a good preparation for next year.

(41) Paul S - (Predicted 360, Shot 401) – OK Tiger, what were you thinking with that prediction?!?!.

(54) Bob S - (Predicted 399, Shot 453) – Wishful thinking.

(103) Boban - (Predicted 450, Shot 553) – A record!  It can only get better (hopefully).

Skin Stats:

There were 7 birdie and 15 par skins.  Note: until the last round of the weekend at Black Bear, there was only one birdie skin.  In fact, I think there was only one birdie period.

Rounds Won (good for bragging rights):

Bob F. - 2 (The Ross and Black Bear)

Stu - 2 (The Alpine and The Moore)

Dave - 1 (Arthur Hills)

Summary (and derogatory comments):

Highest Payout(s): The big bread winner this year was Stu, distantly followed by Paul N.

Lowest Round(s):

Dave - 87 at The Arthur Hills (Very impressive!)

Bob F. - 85 at Black Bear

Highest Round(s): Boban, on all of the courses!  But, the Grand Daddy of them all was a 151 on the Donald Ross Memorial.  He shot 15 strokes higher to take the crown from last year’s champ Monroe (who had a 136 at Red Hawk).  I’m pretty sure a new high score record has been set with this performance.

Longest Drive: Jay, Paul S, Jeff, Bob S. and Randy, since we got lost on the way to Boyne Highlands (an extra 10 mile drive?)  Other than that, the longest drives I saw during the weekend were from (believe it or not) Boban.  Once he got into the grove, there was no mercy on that little white ball.

Shortest Drive:  Jeff, hands down!  Forget which course and hole, but it was a booming negative 10 yard drive (three times in a row) as it kept bouncing backwards off of the pesky left-side tree.  Nothing like shooting 7 off of the tee!

Most Alcohol Consumed: It must have been Paul on Friday (yes, Day 1).  He seemed to be in a pretty happy mood by the time we got off of the course (at The Alpine).

Most Injured: Bob F.  This was the result of a tee box marker stake up the !#$ as he stumbled over it and fell on his rear end.  This occurred when he was executing what appeared to be an end-zone dance after his weekend best 150 yard drive.

Loudest Snorer: Report has it to be Bob S.  Randy even convinced Bob to stay up until Randy fell asleep (so that Randy could fall asleep).

Farthest Club Throw: Jay (the winner every year).  It probably was not the furthest distance ever, but it was a good performance (approximately 30-40 yards?)  If I recall correctly, the club went further than the ball (and landed in the fairway).

Most Balls Lost: Had to be Boban.  I’m sure his local sporting goods store made a fortune when he stocked up for the weekend.

Most Balls Found: Likely Bob F.  I seen him pull out his ball-rake gadget a few times.  I think that thing recovers 10 balls with every scoop.  I’m sure he only kept the Titleist Pro V’s and pitched the rest (hopefully to Boban).

The Loudest "!#$%!", I mean "fore":  Bob F.  (what a surprise).  I heard him cussing up and down during the last couple of rounds and I wasn’t even golfing with him.

Most Improved Since 2004: Monroe.  He shaved 62 strokes off of his total score for the weekend compared to last year.  Nice job Monroe!

Most Discouraged: Could be Boban, but he’s not a quitter!

Most Notable Performance (or lack of):  Tony.  He refused to get out of his cart and play the final holes at The Moore because it was raining.  Someone should have brought him some tampons.  Not only could he have worn them to absorb the apparently damaging moisture, refusing to golf because it’s raining is quite womanly like and tampons and women go hand-in-hand!  (“I’m melting, I’m melting…”)

Practice up for 2006!
